When it comes to kids and their toys there is one toy that has stood the test of time since its first inception and that is toy model trains. While toy trains have been around since the railroad itself, it was not until 1891 (thanks to Marklin) that actual sets were sold that included tracks and add on sets and even towns that could be built around a train set. Prior to 1891 propulsion trains were only for the rich and there were no tracks or additional pieces that could be added on to a train set. Marklin’s use of clockwork power and tin trains made his trains affordable for all classes of people.
